The General Federation of Women’s Clubs assembled here in its 62nd annual convention, today adopted a resolution calling for revision of the McCarran-Walter Immigration Act to wipe out injustices. The resolution urged Congress to “enact a statute which would both guard our legitimate national interests and at the same time be faithful to our basic ideals of freedom and justice for all.”
The Federation adopted another resolution, however, which supported the Bricker Resolution. The Bricker Resolution, according to its sponsor, would prevent the United States Senate from ratifying such international agreements as the United Nations pacts on genocide and human rights.
A proposal that religion be taught in the public schools as an elective course was made at the convention by Mrs. Oscar A. Ahlgren, president of the Federation.
