Police today prohibited a meeting at which Lion Feuchtwanger noted German Jewish novelist in exile from Germany, was to have read from his works.
It was not made known whether the action was motivated by anti-Nazi tendencies of his novel. “The Family Oppenheimer,” or by his recent visit to Moscow.
In a statement to the press, Mr. Feuchtwanger, voicing the hope that his public appearance would be permitted, declared:
“I am no Communist, but a fighter for peace and freedom.”
