Figures compiled here for the Jewish Telegraphic Agency by the Jewish Committee for Personal Service, an organization visiting the two California state prisons in the interests of the Jewish inmates, reveal that the Jews of California, like those of New York and New Jersey, as earlier figures showed produced much less than their proportionate number of criminals, instead of much more, as was recently charged by Judge Cayton.

The statistics from California indicate that from 1921 to 1929 there was a total of 44,187 prisoners in San Quentin and Folsom Prisons and of this number 1,004 were Jews, which is a percentage of .023. The Jewish population of California is equivalent to 3 percent of the total. The records of the Committee show that while the number of Jewish inmates in the two prisons has increased it has not increased out of proportion to the increase in the Jewish population of the state.
