THE BUCHAREST TRIBUNAL TODAY ACQUITTED RONETTI FILDERMAN, SON OF THE RUMANIAN JEWISH LEADER, OF CHARGES OF PRACTICING LAW ILLEGALLY, BROUGHT BY THE RUMANIAN BAR ASSOCIATION. THE DEFENDANT WAS REPRESENTED BY HIS FATHER, DR. WILHELM FILDERMAN, AN ATTORNEY AND PRESIDENT OF THE UNION OF RUMANIAN JEWS. ISTRATE MICESCU, PRESIDENT OF THE BAR COUNCIL AND A WELL-KNOWN ANTI-SEMITIC LEADER, WAS PROSECUTOR.
CHARGES AGAINST FILDERMAN WERE BASED ON THE FACT THAT HE HAD BEEN SEEN LAST OCTOBER IN THE PRECINCTS OF THE LAW COURTS, WHERE HE HAD COME TO MAKE AN INQUIRY IN A PRIVATE CAPACITY. HE WAS SET UPON BY ANTI-SEMITIC ATTORNEYS, BEATEN AND THEN TURNED OVER TO THE POLICE WHO HELD HIM UNDER ARREST FOR SEVERAL HOURS BEFORE RELEASING HIM.
