The House yesterday passed the fifth of a series of anti alien measures, one provision of which requires applicants for immigration visas to submit to fingerprinting in triplicate. One set of the prints would go to the consul issuing the visas the second to the immigration authorities at the port of entry and the third to the Federal Bureau of Identification.
The bill, introduced by Representative Smith (Dem., Va.) outlaws teaching or advocating in any form the overthrow of the United States Government or any subdivision; makes it a crime to advise members of the armed forces to disobey a superior, and amends the Immigration Act by adding several new grounds for deportation of aliens.
Added deportation grounds listed in the bill apply to aliens who: 1) Knowingly and for gain shall have encouraged or aided another alien to enter this country; 2) engaged in espionage for a foreign government or international agency seeking to change the character of the United States Government; 3) has been convicted of violation of a State narcotic law; 4) possesses or carries any weapon without legal authority, or such weapons as automatic rifles machine guns and sawed off shotguns.
