Fire-fighters wearing gas masks rescued passengers trapped below decks in the Greek car ferry Arion which burst into flames in Haifa bay Sunday. The 7000-ton motorship was rocked by an explosion while entering the harbor. Local police have not ruled out terrorist action as the cause. The ship continued to belch black smoke this evening as fireboats poured water into the gutted hull. The Arion was built in Italy in 1965 for the Israeli Somerfin company as the Nili. She was sold to Greek owners several years later.
