The cornerstone of the first American smallholders cooperative settlement was laid at a village near Beer Tuviah where 70 American Jewish families are expected to settle in the near future. Participants in the dedication ceremonies included Minister of Finance Levi Eshkol, who urged American Jewish youths to come to Israel and settle on the land.
Each house in the new settlement comes fully equipped with kitchen utensils and a refrigerator and consists of three-and-a-half rooms. Settlers who will live in the new colony are members of Ha-Ikar Haoved, an American group organized two years ago. Each family will farm 30 dunams and will have a cow and chickens.
