The completion of the first edition of the Scriptures in Hebrew Braille was announced here by the Jewish Eraille Institute of America. The 20 volumes took five years to complete.
The first edition of 25 copies has already been distributed and a new edition is planned. In order to complete the project a new International Hebrew Braille Code had to be developed to replace several regional Hebrew Braille alphabets which were found to be inadequate. An advisory council of rabbis and scholars assisted in the translation.
