First Jew in 150 Years Named Judge on Missouri Court of Appeals

Solbert M. Wasserstrom a local lawyer, has been named a judge on the Missouri Court of Appeals. Appointed by Governor Warren E. Hearnes, he is believed to be the first Jew appointed to that court in the more than 150 years of Missouri statehood. The new judge, who has been a partner in the firm of Rosenwald, Wasserstrom and Jacob, has been an active member of Temple B’nai Jehudah, serving on its board of trustees for 12 years.

Wasserstrom was also a member for 10 years of the National Commission on Social Action of Reform Judaism. A graduate of the University of Missouri School of Law, he was on the legal staff of the National Labor Relations Board in Washington, D.C. for several years. He was selected for the Court of Appeals from a panel of three lawyers nominated by the Appellate Judicial Commission.
