Fifty-two hundred pounds of kosher meat supplied by the joint Distribution Committee, the first shipment of its kind to reach 1,300 Jewish refugees detained on the island of Mauritius, has been received by the adults and children there with “great delight” according to L. Gradmann, a representative of the refugee group.
A Letter acknowledging the receipt of the meat was made public today by Dr. Joseph C. Hyman, Executive Vice-Chairman of the JDC. The request for kosher meat came to JDC from the orthodox Jews on Mauritius. The Mauritius refugees have been given permission to enter Palestine and they are expected to embark soon.
