The First South American Hebrew Song Festival was held here last week to celebrate Israel’s 29th anniversary. The three-day event, which was held at the Municipal Theater of Santiago and the Can### Sheraton Hotel, attracted participants from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay. Nava Baruchin, winner of the internationally famed song festival of Vina del Mar, came from Israel as a special guest.
The event was hosted by ” Hineni,” a newly formed Jewish non-profit organization, and the city of Santiago. Rabbi Mauricio Pitchon of Hineni organized the festival. The local press, radio and television gave wide coverage to the event and advertisements announcing the festival were visible in many stores and on streets in the city.
