First Transport Arrives at Haifa for Evacuation of British from Palestine

The first British freighter to be assigned to the ##sk of evacuating British military supplies from Palestine arrived at Haifa today ?d is expected to begin loading next week. It was learned that other ships, total##ng in all some 300,000 tons, are expected to arrive in speedy succession to com##ete the entire withdrawal of British forces and their supplies within six months.

Meanwhile, truck convoys, aggregating thousands of vehicles, have begun loading supplies at the various British bases for the trip to Haifa where their cargoes will be taken aboard the transports. A considerable portion of the harbor has been ?eared in advance of the beginning of operations. Included in the cleared area is ?he notorious “refugee pier” from which visaless immigrants are deported to Cyprus.

Seven Jews, including a young woman, were seized in various homes in Tel Aviv ?nd Jerusalem today during police searches. The raids also uncovered two caches containing small quantities of arms and explosives.
