The first transport of Jewish refugees from Shanghai has sailed for San Francisco aboard the SS General Meigs. It consists of 164 Jewish refugees from Nazi terror, most of whom were interned by Japan after the attack on Pearl Harbor.
The group includes 26 rabbinical students planning to resume their studies in New York, 60 Jews entering the United States under regular immigration quotas, 58 rabbis who will settle in Canada and 20 Jews who plan to reside in South America.
