The United Jewish Appeals first Young Leadership Mission, which brought 140 young Jewish communal leaders to Israel for a two-week visit, has been so successful that the UJA intends to bring over such a mission every year in the future, Rabbi Herbert Friedman, UJA executive vice-chairman, told the press today on the eve of the mission’s departure.
During the entire visit, the young leaders were never exposed to speeches. Instead, numerous meetings were held, during which the members of the group questioned Israel’s top leaders, including Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion, former Premier Moshe Sharett, Finance Minister Levi Eshkol, Education Minister Abba Eban, Giora Josephthal, Air Force Commander Ezer Weizmann, Foreign Ministry director Haim Yahil, as well as numerous other personalities in Israel’s political, cultural and social life.
