Immigration from France to Israel — mostly by North African Jews — began today with the arrival at Lydda Airport of 160 newcomers. Another group will fly here on July 31 and additional numbers are coming by sea. The immigration was organized in France by a delegation of Israelis of North African origin sent there by Prime Minister Levi Eshkol. The movement is on a relatively large scale. As many as 1,000 Jews are expected to emigrate from the Paris area alone. Today’s arrivals were met by Jewish Agency representatives and were immediately taken to the areas where they will settle.
