Five Jews were killed by a mob in an anti-Semitic street demonstration in Presov, Slovakia, it was reported here today. Few details were given beyond the general statement that the anti-Jewish attacks, carried out by Fascist elements, assumed the scope of a “regular pogram.” The police arrived too late to check the mob. Some of the leaders of the demonstration have been arrested.
Fascist distrubances, carrying generally a strong anti-Jewish character, are multiplying throughout Slovakia, according to information reaching here. Anti-Jewish feelings are also on the increase in Hungary. The average man in the street in Budapest and in other Hungarian cities blames the Jew for the chaotic economic conditions of the country. Sporadic anti-Jewish excesses are reported most frequent in provincial towns where people are easier given to the influence of propaganda by anti-Semitic elements.
