Five Jewish activists is Kiev, some of whom have been granted exit visas, will be brought to trial shortly on charges of anti-Soviet acts, none of which have been specified, it was learned here today. The information was relayed in a telephone call made by a Boston resident to Jewish sources in Kiev.
The five activists were identified as Juli Tartakovsky; Yuri Soroko; Aleksandr Feldman; Zinovy Melamed; and Yan Monarstirsky. All were described as being in their late 20s or early 30s and all were engineers. Since they applied for exit visas all have been fired from their jobs and repeatedly harassed, the sources said. Those who were granted visas have not been allowed to depart because of the pending trial, the sources reported. They indicated that they had hoped the trial would be called off in view of the cancellation last week of a trial that was to have begun shortly against more than 100 Jews in Minsk.
