Five local veterans groups here have endorsed a resolution on Israeli POWs which calls upon U.S. government leaders to “use their good offices to obtain compliance of the government “of Syria with the Geneva Convention.” Endorsers of the statement are the Rhode Island departments of the American Legion, the Amvets, the Italian-American War Veterans, the Jewish War Veterans, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. In calling on the President and others to “actively seek the speediest possible exchange of Israeli and Syrian. POWs,” the veterans stressed that their recent experience with the Vietnam POW situation had sensitized them to this issue.
