The South Florida Council of the American Jewish Congress called today on 25 Jewish and non-Jewish organizations in Dade County to join with it in a resolution to be submitted to Gov. LeRoy Collins and to members of the State Legislature calling on them to desegregate the public schools, in accordance with the Supreme Court ruling of May 17, 1954.
A draft resolution prepared by the council, being circulated among the other organizations, pointed out that segregation was “a denial of the equal protection of the laws of the United States. ” The resolution also warned that failure to act could do “incalculable” harm to the public schools. It stressed that “we are morally and ethically bound to obey the laws of our nation. “
