Following a ministerial council the Spanish Loyalist Government today issued a communique expressing sympathy with the plight of the Jews in Germany and castigating their Nazi persecutors. A statement by the Cabinet said: “Spain promises that when the war has ended she will give within the limits of her power shelter to those persecuted because of the origin of their political ideals or religion, be they Catholic, Protestant or Israelite, if they promise to dedicate themselves to peaceful work and promise not to interfere with internal matters in our country.”
