A memorial “Forest of the Martyrs” for Jews murdered by the Nazis was inaugurated this week-end with the planting of the first cypress saplings at Kisalon, in the Jerusalem corridor, by representatives of the Jewish communities of 14 countries. Six million trees will be planted in the Jewish National Fund project-one for each victim of the Nazis.
Completion of the forest will provide work for several hundred Yemenite Jewish immigrants living in nearby work villages and will aid in reclamation of the barren hill area. Several hundred people, including Government officials and representatives of national organizations attended the ceremonies. Memorial fires were lit on all the hills surrounding the area.
