An organization whose purpose will be to look after the social welfare needs of Jews in Nassau and Suffolk Counties, Long Island, is now being formed by Rabbi A. Joseph Lasker of Temple Emanu-El, Lynbrook, L. I. Sick and needy Jews, as well as those having difficulties with the law, will be aided by this organization, in which there will be representatives of all the Jewish communities in the two counties.
On the committee which is cooperating with Rabbi Lasker in this work are Gertrude Wertheimer, president of the Sisterhood of Temple Emanu-El, and Samuel Weisman, president of the Men’s Club of Temple Beth David. Others who have expressed their willingness to cooperate are Assemblyman Wallace, Judge Smith, District Attorney Edwards and Chief Probation Officer Hammill.
The tenth anniversary of the founding of Temple Emanu-El is being celebrated this week-end. Among the speakers at the three-day celebration, which began Friday night with services in the Temple and which included a banquet last night, were Judge Benjamin Marvin, president of the Jamaica Jewish Center; Mayor Wilson; Assemblyman Wallace; Rabbi Alexander Lyons of Brooklyn; Rev. George W. Roesch of St. James M. E. Church, Lynbrook, and others. A series of Zionist meetings is being arranged for this winter by the Temple.
