Former Vichy France official Maurice Papon was sentenced to 10 years in prison for his role in deporting French Jews during World War II. But the jury absolved Papon, who served as a high-ranking official in Bordeaux during the war, of complicity in the deaths of Jewish deportees. Papon, 87, will remain free during the appeals process.
