Formers Decry Sacralental Wine Abuses

The Golden Jubiles Convention the Twenty-eighth Council (##) Union of American Hebrew Congations assembled for its (##) this morning in the Hotel (##)cr. The Nation (##) Fed(##) Sisterhoods also gathered its last session at (##) same hotel.

Daniel G. E (##) prisided at the session of the union. The incation was by Rabbi Eugons Mannheimer of Des Moines, Iow(##). The (##)tire morning session was given over to union business.

Regarding fermented wine for sacramental purposes, the Union (##)ted a resolution that the Union protests strongly against abuses that the Executive Board be instructed to carry out the spirit (##)uch resolutions and take such action as may be deemed neccessary.

Copies of these resolutions (##) to be sent to the United (##)gogues of America, the Union Orthodox Congregations “for information” and to the different congregations of the Union.

Pointing out that there is a bill before Congress requiring annual registration of aliens, the Union, in resolution, expressed its unqualified disapproval (##) such measures “and of all insidious discrimination against, and segregation of aliens.”

Another resolution stated that the Union advocates uniform marriage, divorce and desertion laws for all the states. Another calling upon the President to release political prisoners, pointing out that all the other countries of the world have given am(##)esty to their political prisoners, was laid upon the table.

After a preamble noting that “noble philanthropy, for benefit of Jew and non-Jew, for decades has ma(##) Straus beloved by Christian and Jew alike” it was resolved that the Union extend to (##)r. Straus its hearty congreatulations on his seventy-fifth birthday and the hope that he will be spared for many years “for the benefit of our country, our faith, and all humanity.”
