More than 1,000 people gathered in the grand ballroom of the Hotel Pennsylvania tonight to mark the 40th anniversary of the death of Theodor Herzl, father of modern Zionism.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Israel Goldstein, president of the Zionist Organization of America, stressed that it was a great tribute to Herzl’s vision that 40 years after his death his proposals were being supported by the greatest democracy in the world – the United States. Following memorial services conducted by a cantor, the meeting was addressed by Pierre van Paasen, Judge Morris Rothenberg and Rabbi Irving Miller.
