A foundation has been created in, Amsterdam to marshal and administer property which was seized in Holland during World War II from Jews who have perished without heirs, according to an announcement today by the American Jewish Committee. Of the 200,000 Dutch citizens exterminated by the Nazis, over 100,000 were Jews. It is estimated that of Holland’s pre-war Jewish population of 130,000, only 26,000 survive.
The foundation, known as Stichting Onbeerfde Joodse Nalatenschappen, is composed of representatives of Dutch Jewish groups. The American Jewish Committee has been active in the establishment of the foundation and in the negotiations with officials of the Dutch Government which preceded it. The foundation will utulize the proceeds of property it receives for the relief and rehabilitation in Holland of surviving victims of Nazi persecution.
