The Founding Convention of the American Zionist Federation will be held in Philadelphia May 28-31. Some 1000 delegates are expected to attend. Dr. Seymour P. Lachman, co-chairman of the national executive committee of American Professors for Peace in the Middle East will preside at the convention. The adult Zionist organizations sending delegates are Americans for Progressive Israel. American Jewish League for Israel, Association of Americans and Canadians for Aliyah, B’nai Zion, Farband, Hadassah, Pioneer Women, Poale Zion, Religious Zionist of America (including Hapoel Hamizrachi Women and Mizrachi Women), United Zionists-Revisionists of America, and the Zionist Organization of America. The participating youth groups are Betar. B’nai Akiva, Dror. Hamagshimim, Hashachar, Hashomer Hatzair, Ichud Habonim, Masada, Mizrachi Hatzair and Noar Mizrachi. The foundation was created in February under a 1968 World Zionist Congress decision to set up territorial Zionist Federations in all countries. Louis A. Pincus, chairman of the Executive of the Jewish Agency and the World Zionist Organization, called the Federation a “historic step forward in American Zionism.” It is open to individual as well as group membership. Its first four U.S. offices will be in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Philadelphia.
