One Israeli soldier was wounded slightly today in a four-hour exchange of fire between Syrian and Israel positions near the demilitarized zone in northern Israel.
The Israel Army spokesman said the firing began when the Syrians began shooting at a tractor working on Israeli land southeast of the kibbutz Shear Yashuv on the east side of the Jordan River. An Israeli patrol returned the fire. The shooting ended when night fell. Israel has lodged a complaint with the Israel-Syrian Mixed Armistice Commission.
