The United Nations Special Political Committee today approved a joint proposal by the United States, Britain, France and Turkey for the establishment of a three-year. $250,000,000 relief and re-integration program for the Palestine Arab refugees. The vote, which was taken notwithstanding the absence of the Israeli delegation, was 44 to zero, with seven abstentions.
The resolution specifically provides that the program is in no way to prejudice the refugees’ right to repatriation. It recalls previous General Assembly decisions on the right of Palestine refugees to repatriation or resettlement, recommends budget authorizations toward carrying out the three-year program and suggests that administration of relief be transferred to local governments at the earliest possible date.
