France and its European partners could withdraw from the U.N. World Conference Against Racism if a declaration labeling Israel as racist is not dropped, a French Cabinet member quoted Prime Minister Lionel Jospin as saying. But a European Union spokesman at the conference in Durban, South Africa, said the 15-state European bloc had no plans at this stage to pull out and was pressing to strip from the documents language calling Israel racist. The U.S. and Israeli delegations walked out of the conference earlier this week.
