France promised to provide half the funding for the construction of a Palestinian seaport in the Gaza Strip, according to the Israeli daily Ha’aretz. Quoting political sources in Paris, the paper said the offer of $80 million was made over the weekend, when Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat met with French President Jacques Chirac and Prime Minister Lionel Jospin. France also promised money for other Palestinian infrastructure projects, the paper added.
