A dispute over another holy site, reminiscent of the dispute between Jews and Arabs over the Wailing Wall, has come to light here with a complaint by the Franciscans to the Palestine government that the Greek monks are scraping Latin inscriptions and pictures from the columns of the basilica of the Church of the Nativity at Bethlehem.

The Franciscans also charge that the Greeks are introducing chairs at the sanctuary and are closing the door of the basilica contrary to tradition.
