A unique degree of Franco-Israel cooperation in atomic research, in which Israel scientists are placing important discoveries at the disposal of France, and France is supplying Israel with uranium for research, was disclosed here last night during an exuberant reception for the visiting French Parliamentary delegation.
The disclosure was made by Francois Benard, former French Minister for Atomic Affairs at an official public meeting in honor of the delegation. The meeting was held in the Freddie R. Mann Auditorium which was packed with some 3, 000 cheering Israelis. Many thousands had cheered the delegation as it passed through Tel Aviv’s main street toward the Municipality Building.
Raymond Laurent, another member of the delegation, declared at a meeting of the Tel Aviv Municipal Court that “we will tell our people that all you want is peace. ” He also demonstrated his esteem for Tel Aviv Mayor Chaim Levanon by presenting the mayor with his parliamentary badge, which he described as the “most cherished possession of a French Parliamentarian.”
Henri Forest, chairman of the delegation, said that the French Government would not abandon North African Jewry. Other speakers included the French Ambassador and heads of the Israel-French Association for Promoting Trade and Economic Ties.
