A 500-year old mikveh (Jewish ritual bath) unearthed in urban renewal diggings in Frankfurt’s Boenerplatz, will be restored as an historic monument even though it will delay construction of a public service center on the site for about a year.
The municipality had planned to dismantle the bath and move it to the local Jewish museum. But the Jewish community and its chairman, Ignaz Bubis, intervened with the mayor and city council.
