More than a generation of devotion to the Jewish cause has not dimmed the fervor of Julius J. Dukas, who is celebrating his seventy-fifth birthday today by working as zealously as on any other day.
Active in many phases of New York City’s Jewish life and philanthropy, he has received little publicity as compared with the scope of his interests.
For more than thirty years Mr. Dukas has been president of the Hebrew Free Loan Society, which he founded and which has grown to be an important Jewish philanthropic institution. Mr. Dukas has also been instrumental in the formation of similar societies in many cities in the United States and Canada.
Mr. Dukas is vitally interested in Jewish education and for more than twenty-five years has been the president of the Rabbi Joseph Jacob Yeshiva. In addition he is president of the Orach Chaim Congregation and has devoted much of his time to the furtherance of Sabbath observance.
Born in Freyburg, Germany, Mr. Dukas was educated in the German public schools and came to the United States when he was eighteen. He has traveled widely in the United States and Canada.
