"Free peoples must never forget their obligations to the suffering Jews, Czechs, Poles and others," declared Jan Maseryk, Foreign Minister of the Czechoslovakian Government-in-Exile, today, speaking at a reception in his honor at the home of the family of the late Zionist leader Nahum Sokolow.
Pledging that "when the war is won we shall deal with the Hun the way he dealt with the peoples of Europe," Mr. Masaryk declared that "whenever I hear of Theresienstadt I feel ashamed that human beings could sink to such depths as the Nazis. Theresienstadt, Lidice and similar places keep me in permanent mourning. (Theresienstadt is the fortress prison in which the Nazis have concentrated thousands of Czech Jews.) We must always hold before our eyes our brethren and sisters who became saints in their suffering for the great cause of freedom."
