The authorities disclosed yesterday the arrest and jailing, on a charge of incitement to murder, of a French anti-Semitic writer, Pierre Clementi, 29, for an article in the anti-Jewish publication, Le Porcepic (The Porcupine).
Police, investigating the source of the violently anti-Jewish article, raided the publication’s offices and arrested Clementi after a search of the premises. He was brought before an investigating judge, who changed the warrant of arrest to provide for immediate jailing.
The arrest was the latest development in the Government’s campaign against anti-Jewish incitement which last Wednesday brought prison sentences and fines for City Councillor Louis Darquier de Pellepoix, publisher of the anti-Semitic weekly, France Enchainee, and his collaborator, Pierre Gerard.
At the same time, the authorities in Arras, northern France, launched an investigation into anti-British and anti-Jewish leaflets posted all over the town and distributed in mail boxes by unknown persons, apparently members of an organized group. The propaganda was attributed in informed sources to Jean Boissel, editor of Reveil du Peuple (Awakening of the People), who recently spoke at Nuremberg, Germany, at a meeting over which Julius Streicher, Nazi anti-Semitic leader, presided.
Boissel has been under investigation regarding his contact with an anti-French group headed by Roger Cazy, who recently was arrested for anti-French propaganda. One of the leaf lets was shown to have been printed at Reveil du Peuple’s plant in Paris.
