The French government will submit an official opinion to the Council of the League of Nations advising against permitting Jews to settle in the mandated territory of Syria, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency learned today.
The French government argues that “Zionist colonization in Syria would require a protective force, while the terms of the mandate do not obligate the French government to facilitate the settlement of foreigners by imposing upon the Syrian and Lebanese governments the cost of such a protective force.”
