The expedition was led by Jean de Riquer, Polar explorer who raised the French flag atop the Old Testament peak after climbing through snow, rain and heavy winds. An American expedition led by Dr. Aaron Smith, a retired missionary from Greensboro, N.C., tried fruitlessly to find Noah’s boat in 1949.
