French military police have arrested 60 displaced Jews at the Wiesenhof camp, near Innsbruck, following a riot within the camp during which one person was killed and three wounded, it was reported here today.
The French also ordered the Austrian camp officials to use tear gas against the Jews if further unrest results from the arrests. A number of persons involved in the conflict, including several suspected of being responsible for the killing, fled Wiesenhof, but were later captured about 60 miles from the camp.
British military representatives in Vienna this week-end demanded that the Austrian Government strengthen its border patrols and give them strict orders to turn back all refugee Jews from Rumania and Hungary. The British spokesman asserted that the Austrian Government was “too accommodating” towards Jews who infiltrated from Eastern European countries.
