Israel Foreign Minister Golda Meir left for home today after conferring with French Government leaders and Paul-Henri Spaak, secretary general of NATO. Mrs. Meir met today with Premier Maurice Bourges-Maunoury and yesterday with Foreign Minister Christian Pineau.
Although no official statement was released on the talks, it is believed that the conversation touched, among other matters, on the treaties which France has just signed accepting the European market and other Western economic plans. Although these matters have no direct bearing on Israel, it is understood that Mrs Meir was interested in Israel’s economic relations with France in terms of the new arrangements.
At a luncheon yesterday given in Mrs. Meirs honor by the France-Israel Committee of the National Assembly, M. Pineau expressed satisfaction with the recent intensification of French-Israel relations and pledged that Israel would always find France at her side to aid her in moments of danger and to help her find a road toward peace. He expressed the hope that Israel’s future would be less fraught with danger than her past.
