A high-ranking Palestine Liberation Organization delegation met last Thursday with an aide to President Francois Mitterrand and Foreign Ministry officials at the Elysee Palace.
According to the Palestinians, their discussion focused on the large-scale immigration of Soviet Jews to Israel. They also discussed the Arab summit meeting scheduled for Baghdad at the end of the month.
The PLO delegation was received by Loic Hennekine, diplomatic adviser to Mitterrand, and two directors of the Foreign Ministry. It was headed by Hakam Balaoui, the PLO representative in Tunisia.
Balaoui is the PLO official with whom the United States ambassador to Tunisia has been holding dialogues since December 1988.
The other PLO delegates attending Thursday’s talks were Mahmoud Darwish, a member of the PLO’s Executive Committee, and Ibrahim Suss, listed as general delegate of Palestine. Suss has long been the PLO spokesman in Paris.
