The Intervention of C. Paul Fletcher, U.S. consul-general in Casablanca, has caused the release of 500 pounds of matzohs withheld from Moroccan Jews, a spokesman for the French Embassy here admitted today.

A cable received by the Embassy said that the French were unaware that the matzohs were to be eaten as part of a religious ceremony until advised by Fletcher’s complaints. They said that they thought the shipment was for one person and customs officials “didn’t realize” it was a free gift.
