The restitution laws in effect in the French zone of Germany will be altered shortly to provide for the establishment of successor organizations legally entitled to claim heirless property, the French High Commission announced today.
Officials of the High Commission pointed out that each province in the zone has a fund for the compensation of victims of Nazism and that in the future heirless property claims may be pressed against funds. However, no retroactivity will be allowed on the applications, Successor organizations for claiming heirless Jewish property already exist and function in the American and British zones.
