Dr. Sigmund Freud and members of his family were “among the very few Jews who were treated decently” in Vienna, his younger daughter revealed tonight. Dr. Anna Freud denied reports that her father had been ill-treated by the Nazis, declaring he had left Vienna “because he wanted to live in a country where it would be possible to carry on his work in the right atmosphere.”
“In Vienna we were among the very few Jews who were treated decently,” she said. “It isn’t true that we were confined to our home. My father never went out for weeks, but that was on account of his health. We were all free to come and go as we please. Even in crossing the frontier, we were not disturbed, but slept right through.”
