Joseph Grinshpan, thirty-two year old proletarian Yiddish poet who died Tuesday night of cancer, was eulogized yesterday by his friends and colleagues at the Workers’ Center, 50 East Thirteenth street, where his body was brought from his late home, 1754 Unionport road, Bronx. Burial was at the cemetery of the International Workers Order.
Hundreds of workers, members of the Proletpen (the literary league of which the deceased poet was a member) and many other writers came to pay their last respects. The speakers included A. Raboy, Aaron Kurtz, M. Katz, I. B. Bailin, L. Sobrin, I. Kastrell, Almazov and others.
Grinshpan was born in Kletzk, a small town in White Russia. He came to New York about ten years ago from Canada. He is survived by his father, who lives in Winnipeg, and his wife, Beatrice.
Grinshpan was co-author with L. Sobrin of “Before Storm,” a volume of poems.
