Funeral services for Miss Frances E. Kallen, statistical research worker, were held yesterday at the Free Synagogue, 40 West Sixtyeighth Street, with Rabbi Stephen S. Wise officiating. Miss Kallen died early Sunday morning at the Hospital for Joint Diseases, 1919 Madison Avenue, after a month’s illness. Following the services burial was held in Westchester Hills Cemetery.
Born in Boston thirty-six years ago, a daughter of the late Rabbi Jacob David Kallen and Esther Rebecca Kallen, she took an interest in statistical research at an early age. For a time she worked for the Carnegie Nutrition Laboratory. During the World War Miss Kallen served on the staff of the War Industries Board in Washington.
Subsequently she worked in Boston, in New York as secretary to Dr. J. J. Golub, superintendent of Beth Moses Hospital, and for her brother, Professor Horace Kallen, at the New School for Social Research.
Miss Kallen’s home was at 417 West 120th Street. She is survived by Professor Kallen, another brother, Dr. Leo A. Kallen, and five sisters, Mrs. Alfred Lunt, and the Misses Deborah, Dora, Ida and Miriam Kallen.
