Furman University, a Baptist liberal arts university here, has awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws degree to Dr. George S. Wise, chancellor of Tel Aviv University. Dr. Wise, a Furman alumnus, received the honorary degree Sunday during Furman’s 147th commencement exercises; graduated summa cum laude from Furman in 1928, two years after migrating from Poland to the United States, at the age of 20. The Furman citation credited Dr. Wise for bringing “honor to yourself and your alma mater,” in a distinguished career as, “teacher, scholar, a leader in world Jewry, college administration and business executive.” Dr. Wise is a member of the Furman University Advisory Council.
