Congressman Albert Johnson, Chairman of the House Immigration Committee, announced following a conference held of five members of the Committee that as other members of the Committee reach Washington for the opening of the forthcoming session of Congress, they will be formed into sub-committees for the study of specific problems relating to immigration legislation. Further meetings of the Immigration Committee will be held at the call of Chairman Johnson.
Yesterday’s conference confined itself principally to a consideration of the proposed restriction of immigration from all nations of the Western Hemisphere.
In addition, however, the conference also decided to ask the State Department for a report of the statistics showing the number of the wives and children who have been admitted under the amendment to the immigration law enacted at the last session of Congress. Congressman Johnson stated, that according to his information, the foregoing amendment has diminished the waiting list of wives and children of naturalized aliens seeking admission.
