Israeli authorities announced yesterday that they were no longer checking persons and vehicles at three check-points in the Gaza Strip. The checks had been in effect since the Six-Day War at Erez, Nahal Oz and Kerem Shalom.
They were officially stopped last Friday, though for all practical purposes the checks had been suspended for some time and military government permits were no longer demanded from travelers. The authorities said military police would remain at the posts for occasional spot checks. The relaxation was due to the relatively peaceful situation in the Gaza Strip recently and Israel’s desire to normalize life there as on the West Bank.
